Bridging the gap to Web 3.0

Semantic networks are playing an increasingly important role for government organisations worldwide. Progressively complex and decentralized systems are Exxellence’s forte and we are constantly looking for new solutions to combine different information systems by using innovative technology, such as BPEL and Service Oriented Architectures.

A recent trend is to use formalized decentralized semantic networks to augment production systems, by means of OWL/RDF, in the United States and Great Britain in particular. We see the merit in such an approach and are seeking the enthusiastic master student with a predilection for knowledge management and semantic networks to help us take the first steps into this avenue.

Within our branch of information technology, you will be researching different approaches on using ontologies and reasoners, such as OWL and Protégé and give a proof-of-concept by amending one of our current products, such as our ‘ZakenMagazijn’ (Case Repository). The results of your internship will be used to make long-term decisions on our journey towards Web 3.0.

To apply for this internship, you need to have an understanding of XML technologies and an understanding of the Resource Description Framework (RDF), the Web Ontology Language (OWL), the necessary reporting and evaluation skills and a good understanding of knowledge representation systems.
